Kingsport City Schools Board of Education Names Dr. Lyle Ailshie as Superintendent

Kingsport - The Kingsport City Schools Board of Education has selected Dr. Lyle Ailshie to serve as the next Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Ailshie will replace Dr. Richard Kitzmiller, who retired on December 30, 2011 after serving as KCS Superintendent for more than nine years.

"We are very pleased that Dr. Ailshie has accepted our invitation to serve as Superintendent of Kingsport City Schools," said BOE President Dr. Randy Montgomery. "He brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm that I'm sure will be well received by our teachers, students, families, and community. We are excited and feel fortunate to have him lead our system forward during this important time in Tennessee education."

Before coming to KCS, Dr. Ailshie served for eleven years as Director of Schools for Greeneville (TN) City Schools. During his tenure, Greeneville City Schools has been recognized as one of Tennessee's highest performing school systems. Dr. Ailshie was instrumental in leading several system initiatives, including development of expanded technology, foreign language, dual credit, and professional development offerings. He guided the system through the implementation process for school-based data analysis and priority setting, and providing leadership and oversight for facility projects totaling over $35 million.

Dr. Ailshie is a past President of the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents and was named the 2005 Tennessee Superintendent of the Year.

Prior to his tenure as GCS Director of Schools, Dr. Ailshie held the role of Greeneville's Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. His background also includes experience as an Assistant Principal at Morristown-Hamblen High School West, as well as serving as a principal, teacher, and coach in Hawkins County Schools.

"It is with humility and excitement that I accept the position of Superintendent of Kingsport City Schools," said Dr. Ailshie. "Its reputation, tradition of excellent teachers, and outstanding leaders make this a unique opportunity. While it will be a few weeks until I officially assume the position, I will be gathering information and working to ensure a smooth transition. I look forward to working alongside all employees as we seek ways to provide a world-class educational program for students."

Dr. Ailshie received his Doctorate of Education (1996) and Master of Arts in Teaching (1984) from East Tennessee State University. He completed a Bachelor of Science/Sociology from Francis Marion College in Florence, South Carolina in 1981. His official start date with Kingsport City Schools has yet to be determined.
