Symphony of the Mountains, under the direction of Music Director/Conductor Cornelia Laemmli, invites you to join them for the 23rd Annual Symphony By the Lake concert at Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, NC at 7:30pm on Friday, July 23. This outdoor performance has become a popular summer tradition in Blowing Rock and is sponsored by the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce. This is the first time Symphony of the Mountains has been invited to perform for this event; the Charlotte Philharmonic and North Carolina Symphony have previously performed for Symphony By the Lake.
The concert will feature a wide variety of music including light classics, Americana, patriotic, movie themes and Broadway shows. The orchestra will be showcased in several light classics, including von Suppé's "Light Cavalry" overture and Smetana's "Dance of the Comedians", and selections from movie favorites Forrest Gump, Lord of the Rings, Band of Brothers and Mission: Impossible. Principal Trombonist Jimmie Self will be featured on Hoagy Carmichael's classic "Georgia on My Mind".
Joining the orchestra for several works is soprano Katy Wolfe Zahn who will be featured on Johann Strauss, Jr.'s Laughing Song from "Die Fledermaus", Sullivan's Poor Wandering One from "The Pirates of Penzance" and Gershwin's "The Man I Love". For the finale the orchestra will play Sousa's ever-popular "Stars and Stripes Forever" followed by the annual Symphony By the Lake fireworks extravaganza.
General admission tickets are $26 per person and $10 for students 12 and under and are available through the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center by calling 828-295-4636 or e-mailing info@visitblowingrock.com and will be available at the gate on July 23.
