TRI Welcomes American Eagle Airlines and Kicks Off Nonstop Jet Service to Chicago!

American Eagle ribbon cutting 7-2-10
(Pictured left to right) Melissa Thomas, TRI marketing director; Patrick Wilson, TRI executive director; Ken Maness, Tri-Cities Airport Commission chairman; Tom Ferguson, Regional Alliance for Economic Development president/ceo; and Kathy Cargile, American Eagle regional sales manager cut the ribbon to launch American Eagle service to Chicago.

It was an "all American" celebration at TRI when representatives from American Eagle, the Regional Alliance for Economic Development and the Airport officially launched nonstop jet service to Chicago July 2, 2010.  The patriotic event included apple pie, hotdogs and plenty of red, white and blue for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.  Kathy Cargile, American Eagle Airlines regional sales manager, cut the ribbon to kick off the new flights and the first departure to Chicago was honored with a water cannon salute.  You can view our photos from the event and the water cannon salute on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TRIflight. The Airport is very excited to welcome American Airlines to the Tri-Cities region!

American Eagle now offers two daily nonstop flights between TRI and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD).  The airline operates the service with 44-seat Embraer regional jets.  Flights depart TRI at 6:10 a.m. and 4:05 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Flights depart Chicago at 12:50 p.m. and 8:25 p.m. and arrive in Tri-Cities at 3:40 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. Chicago O'Hare is one of American Airlines's premier international gateways and provides convenient connections to American's extensive domestic network.

To kick off the new nonstop flights, American Airlines is offering double miles!  AADVANTAGE members have the opportunity to earn double miles for nonstop travel on American Eagle flights between TRI and ORD for travel through September 30, 2010.

To qualify for the bonus miles, AAdvantage members must register before flying at www.aa.com/offers using promotion code CHIAA.  Passengers who have already registered for the CHIAA promotion in conjunction with other new routes out of Chicago do not need to register again.  Bonus miles will be posted immediately, based upon qualification.

Allegiant Air Announces New Website Booking Features

Allegiant Air has made it easier for passengers to book tickets online and change their itineraries at www.allegiant.com.  The low-fare airline has upgraded its website so passengers can make changes instantly to previously booked itineraries and avoid the wait and expense of calling the customer reservations center.

Through the "My Allegiant" tab on the Allegiant Air website homepage, passengers can log in to view upcoming trips and make changes to flight times, seat selections, hotel packages, car rentals, and show, tour or attraction tickets.  Passengers can now view and print an itinerary as well.

To make additional changes not available under the "My Allegiant" tab, customers should call the company's reservation line at 702-505-8888. If modifying an itinerary through the "My Allegiant" tab, customers have up to 72 hours before the scheduled departure to make changes. For modifications inside the 72-hour period, but outside of 24 hours prior to departure, customers must call the company's reservation line.

TRI passengers can also purchase tickets daily at the Allegiant Air ticket counter in the Airport from 8:00 p.m. -9:00 p.m. only.  Allegiant offers non-stop service from TRI to Orlando through Orlando International Airport (MCO) and direct flights to Tampa through Clearwater-St. Petersburg International Airport (PIE).

New Tailwind Gift Shop Opens in Terminal

The new terminal gift shop offers passengers a wide variety of retail items including: clothing for all ages, jewelry, post cards, greeting cards, magazines and books, health and beauty items, novelties and gifts, children's toys, and travel accessories.  The Tailwind Gift Shop is open Sunday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.
TRI Receives Clean Inspection from FAA
TCRA has received a discrepancy-free inspection from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) during its annual Airport Certification and Safety Inspection audit.  The FAA inspection is considered a grade of the airport operations, airfield safety and facilities.

The on-site inspection is a very thorough audit of the entire airfield including:
  • airfield operations/signage/pavement markings/safety area navigational equipment
  • Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) capabilities
  • record keeping
  • fueling operation equipment and regulations
  • staff training
  • FBO and corporate hangar site reviews
  • other safety compliance programs.
The inspection also determines the airport's current regulation compliance, which enables TRI to continue operating as a FAA certified air carrier airport.  TRI has received an annual inspection score of "A" for 14 consecutive years with no deficiencies noted from the FAA.

TCRA Accounting Department Wins Award for Eleventh Consecutive Year

The accounting department at TRI has been recognized again with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).  This marks the eleventh year TCRA has received the award.

The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) provides information on the structure, personnel, economic situation and finances of the Airport, including an independent audit and statistics for key financial indicators. This is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

TCRA Director of Finance, Bill Anderson, also received an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for his responsibility in preparing the award-winning financial report.

The report preparations were a joint effort between TCRA and the auditing firm of Blackburn, Childers & Steagall.  Congratulations to Bill Anderson and the Accounting Department staff!

TCRA Named Keep Kingsport Beautiful Beautification Award Winner

TRI has been selected as a winner of the Keep Kingsport Beautiful Beautification award for the month of July.  The Airport was recognized for its cleanliness, grounds maintenance and recent terminal renovation projects such as installing acoustic panels on the ceiling to improve sound quality and upgrading the ticket counter areas.  The award will be presented at the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.

Thank you to the City of Kingsport and Keep Kingsport Beautiful!  Keep Kingsport Beautiful is a joint program of the City of Kingsport and the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce that honors local businesses and companies for landscaping and redevelopment.

Location, Location, Location

Location, Location, Location
www.MoveToKingsport.com is located on the Tennessee-Virginia border at the crossroads of I-81 and I-26 near the geographic center of the Eastern U.S. This city of 50,000 in a metro of 308,000, was planned by renowned American planner John Nolen in his office at Harvard Square. Located in the lush green foothills of the Tennessee Valley, it is surrounded by the Southern Highlands and mountain lakes. Kingsport is home to Marriott’s www.MeadowViewResort.com and thousands of acres of unique, natural amenities at Bays Mountain and Warriors Path Parks. The natural geography provides a temperate, well-balanced climate with four seasons and a natural shelter from extreme weather. Population growth has also been well-balanced, ensuring you will not outgrow your decision to relocate. With no personal property taxes, special assessments, or state income taxes on salaries/wages, you’ll find that Kingsport has a very low cost of living coupled with an exceptionally high quality of life (see for yourself at www.BestPlaces.net). The regional airport (TRI) has direct flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Detroit, Orlando and St. Pete/Clearwater with easy access, parking, and virtually no security lines. The public education system was planned by Columbia University and Newsweek has repeatedly recognized the local high school as one of the best in America. Year in and year out our graduates go on to the top colleges and universities (and without costly private school tuition fees). Harvard also recognized Kingsport in 2009 with the Innovations in American Government Award for its higher education initiative. What are you waiting for? It’s time to leave the high costs, traffic jams, and stress behind and discover this hidden gem.
